I came across this article and though I would post it.  It talks about different types of eye protection and how they failed and different FPS.  Basically you need a full paintball facemaks.  I know they can be hot and fog, but your eye's will thank you.

There's a couple things I found strange with that article. They talk about military issued glasses being nameless and cheap, but ESS is one of the biggest suppliers and those goggles take buckshot at 35 feet. Also, obviously a 575fps shot at 30 feet is gonna penetrate your gear. That's a ridiculous power gun at a ridiculously close range.  There's plenty of half face masks out there to protect your teeth or you can always just wrap a shemagh around.  If the goggles weren't safe, Lion Claws or any other of the biggest events in the country wouldn't allow them.  Just my take.

That article has been floating around for a long time, and Hawaii is a strange bird when it comes to airsoft. They are the only community in the united states that requires full face masks for everybody. There was a lot of concern from some of those eye pro manufacturers mentioned in that article that those tests were loaded to produce the desired outcome Hawaii airsoft wanted. There has been some evidence in the past that this was true. That being said, i don't have any links substantiating this claim, so take it with a grain of salt. I don't disagree that full facemasks offer the most overall protection, but I also believe that those tests were conducted on the extreme and were designed to fit Hawaii airsofts agenda. Some of the goggles they used are obviously not military goggles. So obviously oakley goggles designed for skiing probably aren't going to meet the same specs a pair of military grade M frames or A frame goggles meet.

as long as the googles and glasses you are using are ANSI z87+ rated i dont think you would have a problem. the z87+ means that the googles and glasses are high impact rated and they test these by shooting 1/4 inch steel ball at the eyepro at a range of 50 inches with varying fps.

I didn't mean to get anyone up in a roar.  Just wanted people to think about what they use and make sure it is safe.  One of my son's friends got one of those $80+ cool looking face masks with mesh protecting his eye's.  I shot him from about 80 feet away with my gun (OLP chronoed it at 330 FPS) and the paint flew off, luckly it didn't fly back into his eye.

Basically all I wanted was to have everyone take a second look at their eye protection.

indeed, I stand by all of my military issued eye pro, ESS ICE, NVG Profiles, and WileyX SG-1's.  If they were as unsafe as that article put them out to be, the military wouldn't have issued them

You haven't been in the milittary Aero.  Trust me we get some crappy things.  I've had a few safety devices in my 19 years of service that were issued to me then a few years later they tell us that they didn't meet specs, SORRY!  When I bought my mask I tested it myself by shooting it at close range with my gun.

sorry didnt mean to make it sound like I was in the military and those particular items were issued to me, but your point still stands lol, I realize that does still happen.  But for the most part the stuff I use is top notch, and still stand by them lol

yeah i would have to agree with at least testing your own glasses...ya never know if u got that one pair that was poor quality
